Shopping in the Algarve

Retail therapy in São Lourenço, Victoria Boulevard and Quinta do Lago

There are several places where you can get your Retail Therapy; the traditional Algarvean Gypsy Markets sell everything from decorative tiles to high quality towels. Nearest to São Lourenço, and located at the entrance to Quinta do Lago, Quinta Shopping is an attractive area of 10.000m², with more than forty shops which include some top brand names. Together with its neighbour Bougainvilia Plaza, they can provide the following wide range of products and services:-

Slightly further afield (but easily found on the main EN 125), there are two newly-built Shopping Centres supplying Designer and International Fashion - Forum Algarve, Faro (15 minutes from Almancil) and Algarve Shopping, Guia (20 minutes from Almancil). They both have large dining areas with a selection of local and International Food chains, multiplex cinemas and Algarve Shopping also has Ten-Pin bowling, for those very rare rainy days in the Algarve. The normal opening hours for shops in Portugal are from 09H00 to 13H00, and 15H00 to 19H00, Monday to Friday, Saturday from 09H00 to 13H00 and closed on Sundays. Shopping centres as well as shops in tourist areas stay open until late.

Supermarkets

There are several small supermarkets in the area, most of them selling the basic culinary requirements, milk, water, bread, etc. Should you require specialist ingredients Apolonia (located in Almancil, just outside Quinta do Lago) provides a wide range of international foods.

Local markets

Market day in the Algarve is a marvellous opportunity to see some colourful characters selling their wares, from the freshest fruit and vegetables to cheese, meat, fish and other local delicacies all alongside stalls offering many local handicrafts. Quarteira is held every Wednesday morning, Loulé is held every Saturday morning on a site near to Modelo, and Almancil is held only on the first and fourth Sunday of the month.

Banks

Banking hours are from 08H30 to 15H00 Monday to Friday. The nearest bank (Banco Totta), is located next to the Post Office at the 4th roundabout and there are several more in Bougainvilia Plaza and Quinta Shopping, outside these banks there are several ATM’S (Cash dispensing machines).

Post office

The Post Office in Quinta do Lago, is located just before the 4th roundabout on the left hand side, next to the Banco Totta and driving range (open from , the main Post Office is in Almancil.
