Algarve beaches and lakes

Outdoor fun in São Lourenço, Victoria Boulevard and Quinta do Lago

For sun-worshippers there are many excellent beaches along the Algarve coast, at Quinta do Lago, Ancão, Vale do Garrão, Falésia (Vilamoura) and Vale do Lobo. Most offer hiring of sun beds and parasols. For the more active some beaches also have water sports facilities, such as windsurfing or jet-skiing.

Quinta do Lago beach

Is reached by driving along the Avenida Andre Jordan at the sixth roundabout past Victory Village, heading towards Hotel Quinta do Lago. There is a car park at the end of the road (take the JES resident card with you for free parking), where you then walk across the wooden bridge, over the Ria Formosa estuary and then through the sand dunes to the beach. Water sports include canoeing, windsurfing and body-boarding, under the watchful eye of a lifeguard during the Summer. This two-mile stretch of golden beach at the edge of the unpolluted waters of the Atlantic Ocean offers a wonderful day of fun and relaxation for all the family. The well known Gigi’s beach pavillion provides bar and restaurant facilities throughout the summer.

Vale do Garrão beach

This beach can be reached by driving towards Vale do Lobo and turning left at the sign for Dunas Douradas & Ria Park Hotel. Where the road forks, bear right, (do not go under the arch), 50 metres past the traffic island and windmill ruin, turn left at the roundabout and continue to follow this down to the lovely beach, bars & restaurants. Ancão & Vale do Lobo also have lovely beaches towards the Vale do Lobo area

Vilamoura beaches

Is also blessed with beautiful beaches with the prestigious Blue Flags being awarded to many of them. The long, long beach of Falésia is perfect for sunlovers, a perfect place for a perfect tan, this beach stretches from Albufeira in the west to Quarteira, further east. Walking even further you will reach the beaches of Vale do Lobo.

Lakes

One of the attractive features of Quinta do Lago is the number of fresh and sea water-lakes, either forming part of the golf courses, or as the backdrop for some of the magnificent villas. The main lake, with an average depth of 2 meters, is used exclusively for non-polluting water sport, such as sailing and windsurfing. Sailing boats, pedalos and windsurfing boards can be hired and tuition is available. There is also a fishing centre where you can hire rods. You can drink or eat at the Casa do Lago bar and restaurant.
